Security Today Podcast has humble beginnings.
Early 2019, I (Baer), had a dilemma. I had already grown my career from practically no experience and I was look for another way to advance what, now, little experience I had to the next level. I was working 40min from my house in the KC Metro area and I thought, why not learn on the go! I searched and searched for a podcast that had to do with Physical Security and I quickly noticed that there wasn't a single podcast on Physical Security. No news, no theory, no integrator sharing specialized information to help the community. Cyber Security and those keypad cuties had podcasts galore. You want to know some hack that happened, some new software that was out, some stupid AWS, Microsoft looking IT glorifying fact that someone could talk about for an hour! They had a podcast for it.
What about door hardware? What about new Access Control technology? Industry trends related to the intrusion detection space? Nada.
So, I previously had done a podcast before and I thought, "Fine. I'll do it." It was over the next few years that the passion and purpose really grew into one thing. Providing help. I don't want this space to be void for the next 20-something that has to drive an hour to a job site where they work for not enough and want to advance their career. I don't want the technician that binge listens podcasts not to have one pop up every week that challenges and sparks creativity, want and drive deep within. I want this podcast to inform, instruct and indulge the security technician as they make the world a safer place.
That is why Security Today exists, so that you can be a better tech tomorrow. More informed, more invigorated and hopefully your passion grows and a little of your career advancement was because you had this podcast to listen to.
